Southwell AW Code Breaker

It's new years day. The first AW metting of 2026 goes off at Southwell starting with the 1:20. My attempt to Crack The AW Code At Southwell on this afternoon's eight race card that features seven handicaps, is as follows.

❖ Jockeys ❖ This afternoon I'll be studying all of the Billy Loughnane (𝕏) rides. He has five rides booked.

I will also be paying close attention to any Hector Crouch (𝕏) ridden horses. He has seven rides on the card.

Both jockeys boast a 20%+ win rate here this season. Between the two of them, there'll almost certainly be some winners to be had.

❖ Draw Bias ❖ The draw bias at Southwell is non existent. Back who you like wherever they're drawn. If backing any front runners, pay close attention to whether you think they have the ability to actually get home up the slightly uphill 1.5f finish.

Southwell Betting Analysis

2:30 Southwell ❖ 6f C2 ❖ Ten Pounds 4/1 will be hard to beat.

Conclusion: highly competitive AW sprint ~ but the stand out performer for me is clearly Ten Pounds. They'll do well to beat him home, even while he's carrying topweight.

I make him an obvious favourite, so the 5/1, 3rd place fav odds are somewhat generous in my opinion. The overnight 13/2 available was a steal. Long gone.


2:30 South ~ Win Bet: 5/1 Ten Pounds (4th 4/1)

4:15 Southwell ❖ 1m 4f 3 ❖ Enemy 7/2 is down in trip and down in class.

Conclusion: looks sure to be involved in the finish now dropped back down to a mile and a half. The drop down to a C3 won't hurt either.
