Southwell All Weather Fibresand Racetrack
Southwell Betting and Going
Punters seem to prefer the Southwell Fibresand over the Polytrack surface for betting purposes. The fibresand is looser than the polytrack, but comparing the Southwell fibresand and the other all-weather polytrack surfaces with the going on the turf is a dangerous thing to do. Punters that try to cross evaluate turf form for horses that have not run on the all-weather, should not do so in my opinion.
5F
Stalls 1-5 advantageous - At the 5 furlong distance, early paced runners can be an essential. Well out of the stalls fast starters have the advantage at the Southwell over 5F. Low drawn (1-5) fast starters are the horses to look out for here.
Mid-winter though, all low drawn horses (1-6), whether fast starters or not, may have the general advantage because the fibresand is possibly harrowed more deeply.
6F
No draw bias usually. The previous low draw stalls bias has failed to reproduce itself for the past 3 years or so.
That said, the low draw have a definate advantage when there is an overnight frost and the surface is officially running slow.
7F
Over 7 furlongs, the results look to be even across all stalls, high, middle and low.
8F & Above
No draw bias I am aware of.
