7:00 Sonmarg (8/1) is upped in trip to a mile for tonight's C5 AW hcp at Chelmsford. It looks to me like a good opportunity for the Sean Woods yard to nick a winner for the evening. Running consistently well enough over the 7f lately, without really threatening with a couple of lengths to find, the extra furlong I think will suit Sonmarg. I just think he'll be too quick for them judging by his 7f efforts lately.

The drift from 3/1 out to 8's is of no concern to me. In fact, it makes for a reasonable betting opportunity.


7:30 Topweight Dereham (20/1) reopposes tonight's 9/4f Veer on 1lb better terms, for a 1/2 length beating, over a 2m hcp, if you go strictly on the form of their last encounter here over the C&D 23 days ago. Veer was 15/2, Dereham 11/1, tonight it's 9/4 and 20/1. Faye McManoman takes the ride from David Egan.

I'll take my chances the power of the crowd, ie the bookies and punters have Veer's price right. If they do, I conclude Dereham should be 5/1 max.
