A bumper all weather card today. 8 races to be run on the Wolverhampton polytrack, 5 of which are handicaps of various descriptions. I am playing in all 5 of them with outsiders.
3:30 Wolverhampton (AW Polytrack) 12/1 Heritage Coast. (Unplaced 15/2) soon led and set steady pace, headed over 4f out, ridden and every chance over 2f out, edged left and weakened 1f out, 9th.
4:00 Wolverhampton (AW Polytrack) 20/1 Doubtful Sound. (Unplaced 14/1) slowly into stride, towards rear, ridden 2f out, kept on final furlong, never dangerous, 6th.
4:30 Wolverhampton (AW Polytrack) 12/1 Baltimore Patriot. (2nd 9/1) held up, pushed along and headway over 2f out, ridden to chase winner over 1f out, every chance when carried slightly left inside final furlong, not quicken towards finish, 2nd.
5:00 Wolverhampton (AW Polytrack) 14/1 Hannicean. (Unplaced 14/1) very slowly away, lost all of 12 lengths, behind, tailed off 6f out, virtually pulled up from 3f out, plum last.
5:30 Wolverhampton (AW Polytrack) 12/1 Giant Slalom. (Unplaced 10/1) held up in touch, ridden and unable to quicken over 2f out, kept on under strong pressure final furlong, 5th.
At last a decent Class 3 race to get my teeth into.
a. Fantasy Explorer b. Ivory Silk, c. Tabaret, d.Toms Laughter e. Doubtful Sound
Given the draw bias and fast time 2nd last time out Fantasy Explorer looks legitimate. Unfortunately nothing is certain in life especially when chaos works in the bookmakers favour in All Weather Handicaps.
On paper I don’t fancy them either of them however, given their draws if Ivory Silk and Tabaret can take advantage of their rail positions they are both currently overpriced.
As a saver I calculate the following exacta pays around 20/1 at early morning prices.
