Snow finally got the better of this afternoon's meeting at Wolverhampton after a fourth inspection.

Course officials arrived at Dunstall Park to find half an inch of snow had fallen on the all-weather surface overnight.

An initial inspection was called for 7.30am but that proved inconclusive and acting clerk of the course Andy Waitt was forced to check again an hour later.

By 8.30am, after an hour of groundstaff working on the track, conditions were raceable, but snow had begun to fall again and Waitt felt it prudent to call a third inspection.

The meeting was officially given the go-ahead an hour later after the snow relented, although Waitt did state that conditions would be closely monitored.

Plenty of non-runners had filtered through as horseboxes struggled to get to the course by the time a final 12noon

inspection was called following yet more snow.

However, Waitt was forced to make an earlier call after another substantial snow flurry.

"We've had to abandon I'm afraid," said Waitt.

"The snow is really heavy now and no matter how much work we put into the track it just keeps on falling.

"It is a real pain but there is nothing we can do."
