Great Leighs Racecourse have apparently been operating under a temporary license issued by the BHA since January 1, 2009 due to financial troubles.
Thursday's Great Leighs race meeting has been rerouted to run on the Kempton Polytrack.
Racing blogger and occasional Sandracer contributor Slippery Toad predicted last year that all weather racing in the UK could well be hitting the rocks before long, after the abandonment of a Wolverhampton AW meeting at short notice due to technical reasons (floodlight failure).
♣ Sandracer Comment: I'm not really into racing politics and so forth. However, i'm not going to be happy if there ends up no horseracing run on the polytracks and fibresand surfaces. Frankly, I can't see it happening, but what would I know?
There will be a few died in the wool turf racing traditionalists who will be rubbing their hands with glee at the news. Every dog has it's day, today is their's.
