Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2025 Analysis

The Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, Europe’s richest flat race with a €5 million prize fund, is a Group 1 contest over 1m 3f 204y at ParisLongchamp. This year’s renewal features a strong field, including Epsom Oaks winner Minnie Hauk, consistent filly Aventure, Andre Fabre’s Sosie, and Japanese raider Byzantine Dream. With soft ground expected, stamina and course form will be critical in this wide-open race.

Race Overview

  • Distance▸ 1m 3f 204y
  • Surface▸ Turf (Soft)
  • Field▸ 18 runners
  • Prize▸ €5,000,001

Historical Trends and Weight Factor

The Arc has a rich history, with eight horses having won it twice, including Enable (2017 & 2018). Recent trends highlight the importance of Group 1 form, with all 12 of the last 12 winners having previously won at this level. Additionally, 11 of the last 12 winners had at least one win over 1m 4f, and 8 were aged 4 or 5. Three-year-olds benefit from a weight allowance (8st 12lb for colts, 8st 9lb for fillies), which has helped younger horses like Zarkava (2008). A draw in stalls 1-8 has been advantageous, with 8 of the last 12 winners starting from these positions.

Key Contenders

Horse Draw Odds Recent Form Expert Mentions
Minnie Hauk 1 4/1 1st in Yorkshire Oaks (G1) Oddschecker top pick, Timeform nap
Aventure 12 5/1 1st in Prix Vermeille (G1) Racing Post pick, Guyon retained
Sosie 3 9/1 2nd in Prix Foy (G2) Fabre’s strong Arc record, Racing Post mention
Kalpana 10 11/1 2nd in Champions Fillies & Mares (G1) Oddschecker ante-post favourite
Quisisana 7 20/1 1st in Prix Jean Romanet (G1) Steve Ryder’s value pick
Byzantine Dream 15 14/1 1st in Prix Foy (G2) Timeform mention, Oisin Murphy retained

Additional Factors

  • Minnie Hauk is unbeaten in four starts this season, with Group 1 wins in the Epsom Oaks, Irish Oaks, and Yorkshire Oaks. Her 6lb weight allowance as a 3yo filly is a major advantage.
  • Aventure has been ultra consistent, finishing 1st or 2nd in her last seven starts, including a Prix Vermeille win. Maxime Guyon’s choice to ride her over Sosie is interesting.
  • Sosie, trained by Arc maestro Andre Fabre, has a favourable draw (3) and strong course form, finishing 2nd in the Prix Foy.
  • Quisisana is a dark horse at 20/1, unbeaten this season and ticking all key trends. Her Prix Jean Romanet win suggests she’s improving.
  • Byzantine Dream impressed in the Prix Foy, but a wide draw (15) and preference for faster ground could hinder his chances.
  • Kalpana benefits from first time cheekpieces and soft ground, but her lack of a win this season is a concern.

Sandracer's Recommendation ~ Selection ~ Win Only ✅

Hiroyasu Tanaka's Alohi Alii stands out at 16/1 for this years Arc. He's won in France before, has top French jockey Christophe Lemaire in the hotseat and is reasonably drawn in trap 4. If his stamina holds out over the extra 2 furlongs, the 16/1 price is going to look quite big with a furlong to go.

16/1 Alohi Alii (Unplaced 15/2 from 16's) Led, headed after 3f, steadied and gradually dropped to midfield, outpaced 2½f out, weakened final furlong, 16th.

Twitter/X posters and racing enthusiasts are buzzing with picks for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe ~ focusing on a mix of unbeaten fillies, improving stayers, and international challengers. The low draw bias (stalls 1-8 favoured in recent winners) is a hot topic, boosting hopes for those drawn on the inside traps. Here's a rundown of standout selections and why users think their horses could win >>

Minnie Hauk (stall 1, 7-2 favourite): Widely backed as the top pick, with posters highlighting her unbeaten record (5-5, including four Oaks wins) and Aidan O'Brien's strong stable form (24% winners). The inside draw is seen as a massive edge for a late strike, fitting the track's two-phase flow (controlled early, acceleration late), and her Frankel-Dansili pedigree suits potentially soft ground. Users call her "out of the top drawer" with a real turn of foot, making her the most bet horse at 15% of total stakes.

Aventure (stall 12, 9-2): A popular each-way shout for her career-best Prix Vermeille win over course and distance on good-to-soft, stepping up from Group 3/2 successes. Posters like her Sea The Stars breeding for stamina if the ground softens, and her improvement this year (second in 2024 Arc) positions her to challenge the favourite, especially with Christophe Ferland's 17% strike rate.

Sosie (stall 3): French fans are optimistic due to the favourable draw (same as last year's winner Bluestocking) and solid form, including a fourth in the 2024 Arc. Users see her as a value play at 11-1 or so, with potential to avoid traffic and capitalize on home advantage in a race where fillies have dominated recently (seven of eight winners in one streak).

Daryz (stall 2): Highlighted for stamina suited to very soft ground and 12f (beaten previously over shorter), with strong breeding (dam a 12f G1 winner) and relations with Arc/HK Vase winners. Trainer Francis-Henri Graffard's high regard and recent pleasing gallops make posters think he'll stay on strongly in a holding track, offering value at 16-1.

Byzantine Dream (14/1) (stall 15): Japanese raider with staying power for the two tempo breaks, per jockey insights from Oisin Murphy (in red-hot form). Posters back her Prix Foy win and potential to turn the wide draw, seeing her as a strong international threat despite the stall disadvantage.

Croix du Nord (stall 17): Noted for beating Daryz over shorter trips, with users eyeing her as a top contender at 10-1 if she handles the wide draw; her form and Japanese challenge add excitement.

Other mentions include White Birch (28/1) for soft ground and late runs, and Kalpana (11/1) for Group 1 places, but the consensus leans toward fillies like Minnie Hauk and Aventure prevailing in what could be a tactical affair on very soft going.

Overall, the field's depth has punters split, with many eyeing up big priced runners beyond the top two.

X posters are discussing Hiroyasu Tanaka's Alohi Alii as one of Japan's three strong challengers in tomorrow's Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe ~ often highlighting his impressive prep form and favourable draw despite being the outsider of the trio at around 16/1.

Positives >>
Users see him as a value each-way bet with untapped potential, thanks to his dominant front-running win in the G2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at Deauville ~ where he beat Prix Niel winner Cualificar by three-and-a-half lengths, showcasing sharp acceleration and coolness under pressure that surprised even jockey Christophe Lemaire.

The stall 4 draw is a major plus in a race where low numbers (1-8) have produced 18 of the last 23 winners, allowing him to race handily if he breaks well.

Trainer Tanaka notes the colt's positive keenness in training, adaptation to softer French ground (including heavy work at Les Aigles), and stamina from his pedigree, making him suited if conditions turn testing.

Some fans back him for his visual dominance in Europe over prior Japanese form (like an 8th in the Satsuki Sho), tactical versatility, and as a lightly raced improver who could surprise in a wide-open field.

Negatives >>
However, concerns include unproven stamina at 12 furlongs (only two Arc winners in 40 years succeeded on their first try) and potential rain disadvantaging Japanese speed if the ground gets too soft.

Conclusion >>
Overall, he's viewed as exciting for Japan's historic bid, with posters like tipsters calling him a "tocard du jour" (outsider of the day) and others inhaling the "copium" for a breakthrough win.

A Poignant Arc for Daryz (A Londoners Perspective)

Longchamp produced another spine-tingling Arc de Triomphe as Daryz (12/1) stormed home late to deny the 5/2 favourite Minnie Hauk in a thrilling finish that had racing fans on both sides of the Channel holding their breath.

Ridden coolly by Mickael Barzalona for Francis Graffard, Daryz surged thru the softening ground to give both trainer and jockey their first taste of Arc glory ~ and a fifth triumph in the race for the Aga Khans famous colours. It was an emotional victory, coming just months after the passing of the Aga Khan, with his daughter Princess Zahra now guiding the breeding operation.

Minnie Hauk ran a gallant second for Aidan O’Brien, while Sosie (12/1) stayed on for third. Giavellotto (37/1) ran a brave fourth.
