Documenting Wins Easily @ Chelmsford



4:45 Modern Times (14/1) has showed up well more often than not over all types of surfaces and going, but remains a maiden after 10 races.

The 1st time visor is what draws my attention. He needs to find a length or two to be competetive at very nice odds.

I'll take my chances he springs a surprise on his 2nd run at Southwell.


6:45 11yo Documenting (22/1) does not look ready to retire just yet. I think his mark of 88 puts him right in the fun zone against any, known, genuine, 7f handicapper.

I have never quite worked out what cheekpieces do for a horse regarding improvement of performance. That said, if Documenting finds a couple of lengths at 11, he'll run up and down over this lot in a C3 on the AW.

6:30 3yo Disclosure (18/1) is chanced at the inflated odds on offer, based upon her performance 2 races back.

She was beaten by 1.5 lengths, carrying 3lb more, over a furlong extra at 13/2. I'll happily take 3X that price, thinking, hoping, that Grace Mcentee and the 1st time blinkers, can bring about the necessary improvement to nick the win.

Luke Morris: Arc Glory & My Life In The Saddle


4:45 3yo Thorntonledale Max (12/1) just has to get himself into gear and stop falling out of the box. I think that element though, is where he becomes a betting proposition. Why?..

Today he has Luke Morris aboard, who is strong at the start, but doesn't panic them either. From trap 3, I am sure he'll track the leader on the inside around the first bend.

If and when he does that, he'll be a 3/1 co fav of 3 in my book, not a 12/1 shot.

7:30 Topweight Luna Effect (16/1) is upped by 4 furlongs after going a reasonably successful hurdling stint.

I am thinking the return to the AW from a mark of 57, over the 2mile mega distance on the flat, is more of a hope than hit for the Moore stable.

However, I am expecting a bold showing. Maybe the stable agree with me?

Either way: I thought his form on the flat previously, plus his hurdling lately, warrants a shorter price than 16/1 on offer in this basement affair.


8:30 Dashing Roger (10/1) looks set to scupper the 3 joint favs and spring a small surprise now back on the all-weather this evening.

He started his career off on the AW circuit and ran well. Since then he's been campaigned on the turf for 4 seasons straight. He won some good races on the grass aswell to be fair.

He returns to the AW fit, on a reasonable mark, but not in scintillating form just of late. He'll change that to "in dashing form" tonight, at double figure odds.

12:47 Chuzzlewit (11/1) is upped in trip significantly today by trainer Kevin Ryan. For the 1st time, he tackles 10f, rather than the 8 or 7 he's always run over before.

His running on late style suggests he could well like the extra distance. He's also down to 78 on the AW ratings. He was at 82 two races ago.

I think the 11/1 is still worth a nibble, even though he has been backed down from 20's. I'll play.

7:40 Topweight Beamish (40/1) has top AW jockey Luke Morris for company in the saddle and a 40/1 price tag.

No hoper according to the market. I say not so much. He was 12/1 and 7 lengths behind last time out over the C&D.

He's a 1lb lower, 3X the price and a race wiser. I'll take my chances, because a few lengths improvement over a 2 mile hcp from 1 race to the next has been done a million times before on the racetrack. Cheers, sandracer.

Kaiya Fraser - From Hackney To Newmarket


5:30 Percy Willis (20/1) was competetive over the C&D at a higher mark in a better race only 8 months ago. He's a bit in and out formwise, but it's a grade 5 handicap and he's 20/1.

You'll do well to find a better 20/1 shot this side of christmas. Cheers, Sandracer.

6:30 Bulldog Spirit (18/1) is interesting because 3lb claimer Kaiya Fraser retains the ride. A negative is Weddell Sea reopposes and is weighted to beat him again.

But, I though Fraser went a bit early last time. He'll hold on to him a bit longer and get him a lot closer this time.

He's a decent up and coming jockey and will know what he did wrong. He won't do it again.
