4:57 Thats My Boy Luke (14/1) is going to prove troublesome to these C6 handicappers he's up against this evening.

Tim Easterby has tried this fella over different kind of trips and this looks to me like his best chance to actually win a race.

14/1 is a fair price, nothing out of the ordinary for what he's shown, but I think he may just do these lot.

6:00 Respectful (14/1) showed up well here over today's 6f from 2lb higher than today, last time out for his new yard at the Midgeley stables. From today's mark he'll be in the mix again at a decent price.

I think they may employ more forcing tactics today, maybe get him just that bit closer to the pace.

If he gets his nose in front at any time, they might just find him difficult to pass, judging by his previous front running runs over the 7f.

Southwell Bets - Wed Feb 12 2025 (afternoon meeting)




5:05 Reinforce (20/1) has been training up at Newcastle and is obviously well thought of back home at the Katy Brown stable in Ireland.

He has a couple of decent runs back home to his name. But the final piece of the jigswa? It's the booking of top AW jockey Rossa Ryan that really catches my eye.

The 20/1 on offer, is big enough for me to take the chance, that his form in Ireland is good enough to warrant coming over here, to nick a few AW handicaps.

4:20 Aram (20/1) ran ok over the straight Newcastle 7f last time out, but she was very likely to desperately in need of the run.

She's come over from Dubai where she did sort of ok, but it's a tough school out there.

If that run plus a months training at home at the Burke Middleham stable has put her right, she might just surprise these lot over the easy 7 at Southwell, in a basement handicap, at nice odds.

2025 Grand National Weights Allocation Table

2025 Grand National Top Weights and Key Horses

Last year's Grand National winner, I Am Maximus, has been allocated top weight for the 2025 race at Aintree on April 5, carrying 11st 12lb. Trained by Willie Mullins and owned by JP McManus, I Am Maximus won by 7.5 lengths in 2024, ahead of runner-up Delta Work, with Minella Indo third and Galvin fourth.

Mullins, who also won the National with Hedgehunter in 2005, acknowledged the challenge of winning again with top weight, noting no top-weight horse has won since Red Rum in 1974. “It’s tough, but we expected it,” Mullins said.

Royale Pagaille is second with 11st 9lb, followed by L'Homme Presse, Grangeclare West, Nick Rockett, and Envoi Allen, all on 11st 8lb. Despite the weight, I Am Maximus is joint favourite with Inothewayurthinkin (11st 5lb). Delta Work is on 11st 2lb, Minella Indo a pound higher, and Galvin on 10st 13lb.

A field size maximum of the 34 top-rated horses will take their places at the start line for the biggest and toughest single National Hunt jumping spectacle in the world.
